Bedtime is a great opportunity to read to our little ones. Reading to kids supports their early literacy and language development and it’s fun! As a mommy and a Speech Pathologist, I like to tie in relevant concepts that help reinforce understanding and build vocabulary during daily routines.
Books that have concepts that relate to nighttime like the moon and stars, going to bed, blankets, pillows, pajamas, and sleeping are great for supporting your little one’s growing vocabulary skills.
After reading these books, you can point out real-life examples of the concepts from the book (e.g. after reading a book about a baby in their crib, you might say: “the baby in the book was sleeping in his crib, here’s your crib where you sleep. It’s time for bed”).
